About the Press Centreof the European Parliament elections and Local elections 2009In order to provide information availability on the European Parliament election and Local elections of 6 June 2009 in Latvia, a Press Centre of the Central Election Commission (CEC) and the European Parliament Information Bureau in Latvia (EPIB) will operate from 2 to 8 June. The Press Centre will be located at the EPIB, 3rd Floor 28 Aspazijas Boulevard Opening Hours of the Press Centre: Tuesday 2 June to Friday 5 June: 10:00 – 18:00 Saturday 6 June, Election Day: 7:00 – 24:00 Sunday 7 June: 10:00 – 24:00 Monday 8 June: 10:00 – 18:00 Information on the procedure of the European Parliament elections and Local elections, different issues of the European Parliament activities, as well data on the European Parliament elections progress in other the European Union Member states will be available to journalists at the Press Centre. On 6 and 7 June: Video Projection on the newest information from the CEC website www.velesanas2009.cvk.lv. Any persons having an interest therein can follow the voter turnout news and provisional election results on this website. On the night of 6 and 7 June: Provision results of Local elections will be available on the website www.velesanas2009.cvk.lv. The Central Election Commission will publish the results of the European Parliament elections on June 7 at 23:00 when the last polling stations will close their doors in Italy and Poland. Furthermore, in the evening of June 7 and in the morning of June 8 the newest information and a TV program on the election progress in other EU Member States will be broadcasted from Brussels. To attend the Press Centre journalists need to have a document attesting the mass media they represent. CEC and EPIB will hold Press Conferences to provide information about the European Parliament elections and Local elections: · On Tuesday, June 2 at 11:00 – Press conference on the readiness of election commissions for the European Parliament elections and Local elections, advance voting, a vote counting process and the announcement of the elections results. · On Saturday, June 6 at 23:00 – Press briefing on the processes of Election Day. · On Sunday, June 7 at 23:00 – CEC and EPIB Joint press conference on the results of the European Parliament elections. The press conferences and the briefing will be in Latvian, when answers to journalists’ questions will be in English and Russian too.
